The Master and Margarita.

Rachel gave me a book to read - "The Master and Margarita", by Mikhail Bulgakov.
It's an allegorical tale written in the late thirties and but not released until the sixties because it was banned by Stalin. The Devil arrives in Moscow one day along with his mate and a big talking cat, kills a few folks and sends others mad, sends a few to some sort of holiday resort and does a stage show.
Personally, I think that Stalin had the right idea.
With the banning I mean, not the slaughter of millions. I'm trying really hard with this because Rachel says that it's one of her favourite books, but I've got to say that reading it is something of an ordeal. I'm usually quite good with words and their meanings but I'm beginning to think that allegorical actually means a bit shite.
More helpful book reviews coming soon.
